The Nature of York Village: An Evening Walk
Dates : Wednesday, September 10th 5:30-7:30
Description: Many know of the human history of York Village, but what about its Natural History? This 2‐mile nature walk will include stops at: record‐setting trees, downtown wetlands, the Wiggly Bridge, Steedman Woods, riverside areas, and other hidden gems. Learn about York’s wildlife, trees, plants, and ancient past. This program is designed for adults.
Location: Meet in front of the York Town Hall.

Intro. to Wilderness Bushcraft with special guest Steven Hanton
Dates: (Sign up for one or both days - see below)
Day One: Saturday, Sept. 13th 9am-3pm / Day Two: Sunday, Sept 14th 9am-3pm.
Description: This course will provide a blend of modern survival skills with traditional knowledge and techniques which make life in the outdoors safe, comfortable and enjoyable! Learn realistic survival principles that will keep you alive in the outdoors. Learn how to use nature's materials to enrich your wilderness experiences. You will get most if you attend both days, but feel free to attend for one or the other. Day one will focus on tools, advanced carving, water, importance of body temperature, shelter and backwoods cookery. Day two will cover fire including by friction, traditional trapping and fishing and the use of natural materials for backwoods projects.
Location: White Pine Programs - 330 Mountain Rd. in Cape Neddick (York) Maine.
Cost: $50 per day or $100 for both days. (cost includes insturction, a high carbon steel knife, oilstone, and free camping. Bring your own food). This course is a great deal!
Staff: Steven Hanton is an instructor for Woodsmoke Bushcraft & Wilderness Survival in the United Kingdom where shares his passion and enthusiams for the wilderness across Europe and in Southern Africa. Steven spent a few seasons in the Maine woods working on wildlife tracking and conservation projects while entertaining locals with his skilled musicanship and Scottish sense of humor. Community & Nature Awareness Program: A Discussion

Description: Have you a longing in your soul for a deeper connection to self, to community, to nature, to Spirit? Have you yearned to do the Art of Mentoring program, but have been unable to make that happen? Have you done the Art of Mentoring and long for more? The Community Nature Awareness Program is an opportunity to answer those desires. This is an opportunity to find out more about this program, and to talk about the power of connection and what it can mean to you, to your family, and to the world.
Host: Deb Marcotte is an alumni of the Community Nature Awareness program's debut year. Deb served as staff on White Pine's day camps, she is committed to personal work, meets regularaly with women's groups, and has raised two young men. Wildlife Track & Sign Evaluation with Mark Elbroch
Dates : September 19-20 (Friday & Saturday) ONE SPACE OPEN!!
Description: Join renown author and tracking expert Mark Elbroch on t his two-day intensive field evaluation of wildlife track and sign identification and interpretation. Participants achieving 70% or greater will receive certification fromCyberTracker Conservation . This is a rare opportunity to spend two days learning with one of the best wildlife trackers in the country. Space is limited to 10 and fills fast.

Seacoast Science Center BioBlitz
Date: Saturday, September 20th (sunrise to sunset)
Description: Join us as scientists, field naturalists and backyard enthusiasts come together to conduct our sixth annual BioBlitz! We will scour 135-acres to record data on as many different species in the park as possible in one day. Come and help us add to our record of 1,450 species! White Pine Staff will lead the Mammals/Tracking team during the event.

The Common Ground Country Fair

Description:MOFGA celebrates its 32nd Common Ground Country Fair on September 19, 20 & 21, 2008, in Unity, Maine. The Fair allows fairgoers to make connections with a rapidly expanding base of organic farms in the state of Maine. Hundreds of vendors, exhibitors and demonstrators, more than 1,000 volunteers, and roughly 50,000 fairgoers will gather to: share knowledge about sustainable living; eat delicious, organic, Maine-grown food; buy and sell beautiful crafts and agricultural products; compete in various activities; dance; sing and have a great time. Fall Foliage & Tree Identification Walk
Dates: Saturday, October 11 9am-Noon
Description: This morning walk on Mount Agamenticus will focus on enjoying the fall foliage, identifying local trees and learning about how and why fall foliage looks the way it does. This program will also touch upon native uses for these trees- from food to tools and forest ecology. This program is designed for adults and involves about 2 miles of moderate walking.

Art of Mentoring: Creating A Culture of Nature Awareness
Dates: October 19-25 2008
Description: Concepts of good mentoring are crucial as we rediscover effective, natural ways of helping people develop deep connections to nature and community. If, like most of us, you didn't grow up surrounded by a culture of people with strong connections to the earth, this is an opportunity to experience it firsthand, to develop a "felt sense" of how it works. The Art of Mentoring is a week-long immersion into this culture of nature awareness. Participants come together for storytelling, lectures, ceremonies, celebrations, outdoor adventures, and time to be alone and reflect in nature. Whether it is your first time or your tenth, be ready for an intense week of adventure in The Art of Mentoring.

Trailing Evaluation with Adriaan Louw

Description: Join Adriaan Louw, Certified Senior Tracker Evaluator for CyberTracker International on this two-day intensive evaluation of trailing skills. Adriaan has trained rangers, guides and trackers. He specializes in trailing dangerous game animals such as African lions and leopards and has worked for ten years in formal conservation including five years with Kruger National Park. Woodland Neighbors: A Family Wildlife Program
Dates : Sunday, November 2nd 1-4pm
Description: Get excited about wildlife! This kid-friendly program will show you how to find animal tracks and sign, teach families nature awareness games and send the kids home with their own animal track cast. We'll learn how to move like our wild animal neighbors and go on a wildlife scavenger hunt. All ages welcome! Dress to be outdoors.

ACORNS- A Celebration of Autumn's Bounty

Description: Come and check out our redesigned acorn program- now family friendly! For centureis the acorn has been a vital staple for Natives of our area. We'll teach you how to identify different acorns, ow to store, process and cook with them. We'll keep the kids busy with fun games and activites...and you'll get to sample acorn treats!

Fall Survival Shelter Campout
Dates : Saturday-Sunday, November 15-16; 10am Sat.- 8am Sun.
Description: Are you or your children prepared to spend a night outdorrs with nothing but the clothes on your back? Did you know that most wilderness tragedies are a result of exposure to the elements? If you spend time outdoors, you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to take this workshop. Our experienced staff will help you design, build and sleep in a shelter constructed of natural materials. Families welcome (ages 8 and up with an adult.). Pack a lunch and bring water for Saturday- we'll provide a hot dinner and breakfast.

Seabirds of the Maine Coast
Dates : Sunday, December 7th 1-4pm
Description: Winter birding at its best! The rocky coasts and salt marshes of Southern Maine provide excellent habitat and a scenic backdrop for a variety of hearty birds including: eiders, harlequin ducks, loons, pintails, scoters, murres, buffleheads and more! This afternoon tour of hot birding spots is a great way to beat the winter blues. Led by veteran birder Dan Gardoqui. Dress warmly, wear a windbreaker, and bring along binoculars if you have them.
Location: Meet at the public parking lot next to Cumberland Farms on Route 1 in Ogunquit.

Algonquin Winter Tracking Expedition
Dates : February 15-20 (Sunday-Friday)
Description: Join us on our 10th annual Winter Wildlife tracking workshop to the scenic wilds of Ontario's Algonquin Provincial Park. We spend the week tracking and trailing the rare eastern wolf, fisher, marten, otter, fox, moose, hare, flying squirrel and more! Live sightings of wildilife are not uncommon. Our cook prepares delicious healthy meals while we relax and research in our rustic cabins. This program is open to trackers of all skill levels -from the brand new to the well-practiced. Past participants agree that this is a week you'll never forget.
Location: Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario Canada.

North Maine Woods Lynx Tracking Expedition
Dates: March 8-14 (Sunday - Saturday) 2009
Description: This year marks our 7th Annual Lynx Tracking Expedition. This week is a hybrid citizen-science effort / Tracking Expedition focused on Canada Lynx. We spend the week tracking and trailing in the Northern and boreal forests - seeking out lynx by studying thier habitats and prey base. While tracking, we're collecting useful data for biologists to use in thier management plans for lynx and lynx habitat.
Location: Exact location to be determined (dependent upon snow conditions, lynx movements, research needs, etc.). However, we're likely to be based somewhere near the Jackman, Maine region.
Cost: $695 includes all food & lodging.

Weeklong Bird Language Intensive
Dates: May 3-8 2009
Description: Understanding bird language can make you "invisible" in the forest. Learn to decipher what the birds are telling us about the location and intention of other animals, and also what they have to say about our own patterns of movement and awareness. This exciting week will open your senses to the various "shapes" of bird language - rings of movement, sound, and feeling that ripple across the landscape. Learn to move quietly while expanding the circle of your awareness through the power of bird language, a skill that has been passed down through countless generations of trackers around the world. This workshop is well suited to birders (both new & veteran), wildlife trackers, outdoor educators, hunters, and nature enthusiasts in general.
Location: After years of requests, we're holding this workshop on the east coast. Hawk Circle, located in Cherry Valley, New York, wiith its variety of habitat types and spring migration of songbirds in full effect, will host the program.
