Wildlife tracking in North America is growing and developing in exciting ways: In the last seven years alone, there have been more quality tracking texts published then in the last century; an international tracking evaluation process has been implemented; wildlife resarch projects are utilizing tracking skills; and new discoveries in animal behavior are being made by trackers and naturalists. This is surely an exciting time!
The purpose of the White Pine Tracking Apprenticeship is to help prepare trackers to apply thier skills as effective tools in community, scientific, and educational settings .
Apprentices are guaranteed monthly field tracking time in a diversity of habitats across New England and will take part in unique evening workshops to become more proficient and experienced wildlife trackers.
Who is the Apprenticeship for?

Our popularprograms include: Backtracking Bobcats and Intro to Winter Wildlife Tracking and Trailing. Come join us on our next adventure!
In conjunction with Cybertracker Conservation, White Pine Programs is proud to host Wildlife Track & Sign Evaluations. As of late 2006, evaluations are conducted by certified evaluators.
Evaluations are open to the public and are intended to validate the "dirt time" of practicing trackers as well as help them understand their strengths and weaknesses in terms of a working knowledge of track and sign and trailing skills.
We hope that evaluations can serve as a means for competent trackers to prove credibility and gain employment in the application of tracking skills. Tracker evaluations are also an efficient form of education and excellent means to test observer reliability. ALGONQUIN WINTER TRACKING EXPEDITION
Fox, Otter, Wolf, Moose, Marten, Beaver, Mink, Fisher, Shrew, Owl, Flying Squirrel, and Grouse extend an invitation to spend a week in a winter wonderland studying their tracks and sign. For over 10 years, we've journeyed to the heart of Central Ontario for a week of tracking & trailing an amazing array of animals in a place so beautiful that you have to stop and take it all in many times a day. We stay in heated, rustic cabins and bring along an excellent cook so you can focus on learning. We only accept 10 participants, so sign up early.

Experience the need to track & collect data on a flagship species of the North Maine Woods, the Canada Lynx. Since 2002, this expedition has emphasized field techniques and wildlife skills that help citizens become competent volunteers to wildlife research.
We spend each day in the field gathering useful information on Lynx and associated species like hare, bobcat, marten and moose and share that information with wildife bilogists responsible for Lynx management.
This program is run with support from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries' Mammal Group. Experience the power of citizen science in action.
Limited to six participants, this week has been an amazing experience of exponential growth in tracking for past participants.
Human beings have lived a life close to the earth for the majority of our existence. For the last fwe milennia, our ancestors have chosen lifestyles that are seem disconnected from nature. Recent studies are showing that a life disconnected from nature comes with a price.
We offer day and weekend workshops in wilderness suvivalnot becuase we want to make people into survialist hermits in the Idaho moutnains, but becuase survival makes clear our absolute dependence on nature. Nature is the ultimate provider and a fabualous teacher as well.
Learning to work with nature is the goal of our Wilderness Survival and Ancient Living Skills programs. Workshops include: Autumn Survival Shelter campout, The Acorn: From Harvest to Feast, Winter Snow Shelter Campout, Primitive Fire-Making, and more.
